I Don’t Need A ‘Fathers Day’

I don’t need to be commanded
to remember you today,
I will not fall for all that nonsense
everyday I remember you anyway

I don’t need to be commanded
to remember you’re not here,
Or dig deep in purse fork out for feigned verse
unnecessary and insincere

I don’t need to be commanded
to buy socks or stupid ties,
No joke beer jugs no slapstick mugs
all the stuff you once despised

I don’t need to be commanded
or reminded in any such way,
To feel as I do and to think of you
I dont need a ‘Fathers Day’
